Welcome to the Circular Refugee Consortium (CRC) – a driving force for innovation and sustainability. At CRC, we tackle world’s pressing challenges with forward-thinking solutions in clean energy, regenerative agriculture, and community empowerment.
Let's work together towards a resilient planet for future generations.
How We Make a Difference: Empowering societies, cutting carbon emissions, and nurturing eco-friendly economies.
The CRC Circular Refugee Consortium unites four innovative agencies—SEMiLLA Sanitation, Biogas Solutions Uganda Ltd, HS Green Energy Engineering Solutions Ltd, and SkillEd—from Uganda and the Netherlands. Together, we collaborate with local CSOs, knowledge institutions, and financial partners to drive sustainable solutions for refugee communities.
CRC in Action:
Impevi Model on Sustainability
By planting indigenous tree species, commercial cultivation, and fruit trees, it diversifies the ecosystem and promotes a regenerative economy.
The waste accumulated from the foil pond is converted into 1.800m3 of compost. Annually, 200m3 of this compost is used for potting soil, with the excess sold to aid small-scale struggling farmers improving food security.
The biodigester separates gas and solid. The biogas (44.695m3 yearly) gets bagged and sold at Imvepi market rates to be used for cooking.
In Imvepi Refugee Settlement, Dutch latrine bags separate human waste from the ground, improving groundwater quality. A pump transfers sludge to storage, reducing health risks from pathogens in human waste.
Project "Waste to Clean Air"
Terego District, home to 378,000 people, including refugees, faces severe environmental challenges. The "Waste to Air" project combats deforestation, soil degradation, and food insecurity by restoring ecosystems and promoting sustainable practices. Focused on empowering youth and women, it strengthens local food systems and builds resilience against climate impacts.
Project impact
The CRC project will enhance water quality and availability, reduce energy poverty, and foster a green economy through green jobs and products like biogas and bio-compost. It will regenerate 121 hectares of land with fruit-bearing trees, commercial crops, and indigenous species for ecological restoration. By reducing wood fuel demand, the project will ease tensions between host and refugee communities. Additionally, it will assess and support existing green enterprises, expand market opportunities, and empower youth and women with skills to manage sustainable businesses and drive local economic growth.
The CRC project unlocks impactful market opportunities for biogas and bio-compost within refugee and host communities:
We transform organic waste into clean biogas, reducing dependence on firewood and charcoal. This cuts emissions, lowers deforestation, and brings safe cooking fuel to families.
Our bio-compost and bio-fertilizers restore soil health, boosting crop yields and reducing the need for chemical inputs—paving the way for resilient, local food systems.
Through biogas, reforestation, and waste-to-resource innovation, we cut greenhouse gas emissions and revive degraded lands—combating climate change .
We equip youth and women with the skills to lead in a green economy. From operating biodigesters to launching eco-businesses, we foster inclusive, circular livelihoods.
Clean cooking solutions reduce indoor air pollution, preventing respiratory illness— among women and children in refugee and rural households.
Experience the transformative power at CRC offering a beacon of hope for refugees. Your support in our initiative changes lives, providing crucial aid to those in need while fostering environmental responsibility.
Delivering crucial supplies and shelter for immediate relief in crisis situations.
